Disneyland Resort is always evolving, and in 2024, one of the biggest changes for park‑goers is the way you skip the standby lines. Genie+ is gone—and in its place is a brand‑new, more flexible Lightning Lane system at Disnleyland with multiple purchase options.

If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure, this guide will break down everything you need to know about the new Lightning Lane system so you can save time, ride more attractions, and plan your day like a pro.

What Is the Lightning Lane System?

Lightning Lane entrances are special, faster access points for certain rides and attractions. Instead of waiting in the traditional standby line, you’ll use the Lightning Lane to join a shorter, pre‑booked queue during a designated return window.

Unlike the old Genie+ model, you now have two main ways to buy Lightning Lane access:

Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) purchases for specific rides.

Lightning Lane Multi‑Packs that bundle several attractions together.

How to Buy Lightning Lane Access

The Disneyland App Is Essential

All Lightning Lane purchases are made through the Disneyland mobile app:

  • Download before your visit and sign in with your Disney account.

  • Link your tickets or Magic Key pass.

  • Turn on location and notifications for real‑time updates.

When Can You Purchase?

  • Same-day purchases only (no advance booking yet).

  • Availability opens when the parks open.

  • Popular rides and packs can sell out—plan to purchase early!

Option 1: Lightning Lane Multi‑Pass

The Lightning Lane Multi‑Pass (LLMP) is Disneyland Resort’s bundled line‑skipping service, replacing the old Genie+ model and offering access to more than 20 select rides across both parks.

Key Features

  • Includes access to approximately 23 attractions at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.

  • Offers unlimited PhotoPass downloads, audio tour extras, and more per day. Undercover Tourist+5Mickey Visit+5Disney Tourist Blog+5

  • You can make one reservation at a time—book another after using the current reservation or after two hours

Pricing

  • Prices start at $32 per person, per day when added to tickets ahead of time.

  • Day‑of pricing may reach up to $39 or more on peak days.

  • Magic Key (annual pass) holders receive a 25% discount.

Ride Access – What’s Included?

Disneyland Park Lightning Lane Multi‑Pass Attractions:Autopia, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, “it’s a small world”, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Pirates of the Caribbean (while active), Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, Space Mountain, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

How It Works

  • Purchase your Multi‑Pass either in advance or the day of your visit through the Disneyland app.

  • Once you enter the park, you can immediately make up to 3 Lightning Lane reservations at once from the list of included attractions.

  • As soon as you redeem one of your 3 reservations (or the return window closes), you can book another—keeping up to 3 active at any given time.

  • You can also modify or cancel selections in the app to better fit your schedule.

Pro Tip: Stagger your 3 initial reservations (morning, midday, afternoon) to maximize your ride count, and keep refreshing availability throughout the day!

Option 2: Individual Lightning Lane Selections

Certain high‑demand attractions aren’t in the multi‑pass. Instead, you can buy single‑ride Lightning Lane access à la carte.

Current Individual Lightning Lane Rides:

  • Disneyland Park:⭐ Star Wars: Rise of the ResistanceMickey & Minnie’s Runaway RailwaySpace Mountain

  • Disney California Adventure:⭐ Radiator Springs RacersWEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man AdventureIncredicoaster

Tips for Individual Purchases:

  • Prices range from $12–$30 per ride depending on the date and demand.

  • You can buy multiple ILLs in a day, as long as times are available.

  • Return times fill up quickly for popular rides—buy early!

How Do Return Windows Work?

  • After you purchase, you’ll get a return window (e.g., 1:10 PM–2:10 PM).

  • Arrive anytime in that window and tap in at the Lightning Lane entrance.

  • You cannot hold multiple return times for the same ride, but you can hold multiple for different rides.

Pro Tip: Plan your day around your return windows—ride nearby attractions or enjoy shows and snacks while you wait.

Planning Tips & Strategies

Stack Strategically Buy a multi‑pack for several rides, then add an Individual Lightning Lane for a must‑do headliner.

Check Wait Times Often Return windows fluctuate—keep refreshing the app.

Rope Drop + Lightning Lane = Win Hit a major attraction at rope drop (opening) via standby, then use Lightning Lanes later to double your ride count.

Combine with a Park Hopper If you have a Park Hopper ticket, you can book Lightning Lanes in both parks after 11:00 AM.

For Families & Groups

  • Child Swap (Rider Switch): Still available with Lightning Lanes—one adult waits while another rides, then swap with minimal waiting.

  • Magic Key Holders: Can purchase Lightning Lane access just like day guests.

  • Link Your Group in the app: One person can book Lightning Lanes for everyone in your party.
